The new Brandvlei Prison consists of a new medium security prison to cater for 1000 inmates and was built to replace the existing facility which had become dilapidated beyond repair. The new facility was commissioned in September 2011 and has been built based on specifications for new generation prisons. The wall finish consists of facebrick throughout to ensure low maintenance and replacement costs.
